I have been fortunate in my life to work with women, babies, children and families in a number of ways, but nothing has felt as right to me as being able to care for families as a postpartum doula. Helping you become confident and comfortable as you find your way as parents, whether this is your first child, you are adding another child to your family, or you are welcoming more than one baby, is a great honor and joy. I love that the work of doulas is continuing the tradition of support that women have offered each other for generations. I love being that extra set of hands you sometimes need, offering a listening ear, and an encouraging word, and helping you become a family. I feel honored to be a part of this amazing time in your lives. It is my firm belief that by empowering women in their birth experiences, by supporting families and by parenting with gentleness and love, we impact our community in far reaching ways and help make the world a better and more peaceful place.
I am certified as a postpartum doula through DONA and have been working with Itsabelly (formerly known as Renaissance) since I trained in 2012. In my prior life I have worked as an occupational therapist, childcare teacher with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, homeschooling parent, childbirth educator, doll maker, and knitting teacher. In addition to providing postpartum care with families I facilitate one of our New Parent and Breastfeeding support groups, and teach classes on preparing for postpartum. I have a passion for helping mama and baby get off to a good start with breastfeeding, and love making you some yummy food then, while you are napping, folding your laundry while holding your baby in my wrap!
I have two adult children and one most amazing granddaughter. My wonderful husband and I have been married for 35 years, and raised our children in rural Maine before we moved to the “big city” of Portland over 15 years ago, where we love combining our city and country interests by growing food and riding our bikes to great bakeries! We live in southeast Portland in an old house with two great dog buddies and some friendly chickens. I love gardening, hiking and backpacking, learning new things, knitting, cooking, a good meal with friends and family, and how big the trees are in Oregon.
