Emilie Young –

As long as I can remember, I have been in awe of the amazing ability of women to create and bring forth life. When I was young and my mom would take me to the library, I would always check out the books on fetal development and the birth. The crowning pictures were enough to make my mom give me a side eye, but she’s always encouraged me.

There was rarely a time when you’d find me without an arm full of dolls and I would proudly proclaim to anyone I met that I would be a mother and wanted 12 children.

When it actually came time to have my first baby, even though I had been preparing for that moment my whole life, I was surprisingly under-prepared. I had gone to Lamaze and read all of the books but when you’re in the moment and your partner is feeling faint and has forgotten everything we had learned, all of the things I had envisioned for my birth, kind of flew out the window. When I had my 3  babies ( I didn’t end up with twelve children) I had never heard of a  Doula and how having an experienced, knowledgeable, calm, presence in the room can help the birthing person have a positive experience and lower the need for interventions…..Not to mention that you could also have that same calm and knowledgeable person come into your home during those 1st weeks home with a newborn.  If I had known such an option existed I believe I would have had the Birth and Postpartum experience I strive to help my clients achieve.

In 2015 I began my journey as a Birth & Postpartum Doula and ever since have felt in my heart that this work is where I belong.
