As early as I can remember I wanted to be a labor & delivery nurse. When I was 10 I witnessed my youngest sister be born and something inside me knew that this is what I wanted to do. All through school I read, studied, and took classes to work towards this dream. After having my own children I had the honor of supporting my youngest sister in delivering her first daughter. I knew that I wanted to assist in delivering babies, but I wanted to do more than just that, I wanted to support families before and after as well. I found doula work to be exactly what I was thinking. I was a single mom at the time so it took me a few years before I was able to follow this dream of mine. I attended “So you want to be a doula?” at Mother Tree Doula Services, met several in area doulas, and felt I was exactly where I needed to be. That summer as the door was closing on my hospitality position another opened for me to be able to achieve my lifelong goal of supporting birthing families in welcoming their babies. Since finishing my training I have had the honor of supporting several families during birth and postpartum.
As your birth doula I will work together with you, and even your partner too, to surround you with emotional reassurance, practice comfort measures, utilize breathing techniques for grounding, and together provide you with continuous support. I will encourage you to labor and birth your child with empowerment and security. Together we will work as a team in honoring you during your pregnancy, labor, and birth.
Bringing home a new baby makes you a new parent no matter if it is your first time or it is your fifth time. As your postpartum doula, I will offer you guidance and support during your new transition. This could mean cooking you a meal, tidying up the house, caring for your newborn, or older children. Allowing you the time to be able to shower or maybe even take a much needed nap. I want to provide you with that extra bit of support that you may not have so that you don’t feel like you are in this alone! With my support, it will allow more time for you to feel like you have an extra set of hands and help build the confidence with your new skills that we would be working on together as a team.
